PTO's Incoming 6th Grader Guide:

Welcome to Pin Oak Middle School! We are thrilled for you to join our wonderful community of diverse students, caring teachers, involved parents, and active PTO volunteers! Speaking of the PTO, we have compiled this guide to make your child’s transition to middle school as seamless as possible. Communications:

School and PTO communications are streamlined into one weekly newsletter called the Charger Chatter. The Charger Chatter is emailed each Sunday to parents who have registered for a Membership Toolkit account at pinoakpto.org. If you have a Membership Toolkit account with another school, you can use the same credentials to log into POMS site. Students will also receive the Charger Chatter if their HISD email addresses have been added to their account. The Charger Chatter contains important information about school events, club and sports tryouts, fundraising efforts and more. We also invite you to follow us across all major social media platforms @pinoakpto.

School Supplies:

Parents have the choice of purchasing school supplies from the POMS School Supply Lists on their own or buying a prepackaged school supply kit from 1^st Day School Supplies. The deadline to purchase a prepackaged school supply kit is July 1, 2024. More information, including link to purchase and supply lists by grade can be found here.

School Store:

Students must wear a collared shirt in royal blue, white, or gray. Any logo on the shirt must not be larger than the student’s ID card. Any undershirt or sweatshirt must also be one of the three approved colors and must not have a logo larger than the student’s ID card. Students may also wear an approved POMS club/sports sweatshirt as long as a dress code approved shirt is worn underneath. Clothing with any type of hood is not permitted. On Charger Days, all students may wear Charger Spirit Shirts. Charger Spirit Shirts, POMS logo sweatshirts, and POMS logo polo shirts are available for purchase at the POMS School Store. Please visit the Online School Store* for all your Pin Oak gear. For bottoms, students may wear pants, skirts, shorts, skorts, capris, or jumpers in navy blue, khaki, blue denim, or the official school tartan. Leggings or tights may be worn under bottoms in solid white, gray, navy, khaki, or black. Please refer to the full POMS Dress Code Policy.

*The POMS Online School Store will reopen on July 1, 2024. All items purchased over the summer will be available for pick up at Charger Camp, which is tentatively scheduled for August 2, 2024.

The PTO is responsible for organizing various school events throughout the school year such as:

Auction: major fundraising effort where you can bid on fabulous items like weekend getaways, vacation home rentals, dining experiences from amazing restaurants, and more
Book Fair: weeklong event in the school library that encourages a love of reading
Charger Fest: festival usually held on a weekend in the fall with food, games, prizes, raffles, obstacle courses, rock climbing walls, and other fun
Color Run: sociable held on campus during the school day where students can run around the track, win prizes, eat fun treats, and throw colored chalk powder in celebration
8^th Grade Activities: end of year celebration party and promotion ceremony
Kona Ice Fridays: cool treats available for purchase on-campus

In addition to the fundraising events mentioned above, the PTO leads the Charger Commitment Campaign annually in October. The PTO commits to spend every dollar raised from the campaign in the same school year to ensure that your donation will be used for your own student’s experience and education at Pin Oak Middle School.

We encourage all parents to become members of our PTO. We have a goal of 100% participation with no required dues for the 2024-2025 school year. Annual membership expires at the end of each school year on June 30^th. Join the 2024-2025 POMS PTO starting July 1st.
