Principal's Post

Dear Charger Parents and Families,

As we approach the final weeks of the semester, I am thrilled to reflect on the amazing accomplishments of our school and share exciting updates. Pin Oak Middle School continues to thrive, and our recent achievements are a testament to the strength of our community and dedication to excellence:

  • Family-Friendly School Diamond Certification – Celebrating our welcoming and supportive campus environment.
  • No Place for Hate Designation for the 2024 academic year – Reflecting our commitment to inclusivity and respect.
  • US News & World Report Recognition as one of the Best Middle Schools in the Nation for the 2024–2025 school year – Showcasing our focus on academic achievement and student success as one of the Best Middle Schools in the Nation for the 2024–2025 school year.

These accomplishments are only possible because of the collaborative efforts of our students, staff, and families. Let’s continue to embrace our motto: "Imagine, Believe, Achieve" as we finish the semester strong!

Giving Tuesday: Supporting a Great Cause

This Giving Tuesday, we’re excited to spotlight a special initiative. Mr. Merz and two of our incredible Chargers, Miles Marx and Harrison Sealock, are running the Aramco Houston Half Marathon in January to support Avondale House, an organization that provides lifelong support for individuals with autism.

Let’s rally behind them! No donation is too small, and every bit helps make a difference:

Important Academic Updates

This Friday, students will receive their 3rd six weeks progress reports during Team Time. With only three weeks left in the semester, it’s vital to monitor academic performance through HISD Connect. Please reach out to your student’s teachers if you have questions or need additional support.

Holiday Fun Alert!

To add some festive cheer, we’re bringing back our Ugly Sweater Fridays, a beloved campus tradition we started four years ago! Encourage your student to join in the fun and keep an eye on our campus social media for weekly photos of our Pin Oak family showcasing their holiday spirit.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. Together, we’re building a legacy of excellence and care for our school community.

Connecting with you is important to us and we are here for you:

See you soon!

Lindsey Vela, Principal
HISD West Division Middle School Principal of the Year

Thank You for the PIES!

Thank you to everyone that donated to our Thanksgiving Pie Drive! With your help, we were able to send all 121 teachers, staff and bus drivers home for the break with a fresh pie!

As always, thank you for supporting our school, teachers and staff!

Donate to the Teacher & Staff Holiday Gift Fund

Help us show our wonderful teachers and staff how much we appreciate them by donating to the Teacher & Staff Holiday Gift Fund

Cash gifts will be distributed to all those involved in teaching and caring for our students including teachers, administrators, maintenance, and support staff!

Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated and will be accepted until Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

If you have any questions, please email Jenny Dagley & Wynne Erickson, VPs of Activities. Thank you!

Kona Ice Friday!

Kona Ice will be at POMS after school on Friday, December 6. The Kona Ice truck will be parked on Glenmont Street by the crosswalk.

Please bring cash to purchase a treat. A cup of shaved ice is $4, $6, or $7 each. Kona Ice generously donates 20 percent of the proceeds to POMS!

Please email Jennifer Deneen, Kona Ice Chair, with any questions.
