Dear POMS Family,

We can't thank you enough for the generous donations we've received so far during this year’s Charger Commitment Campaign.  

We rely on the support of our Pin Oak families to help our PTO fund all the "extras" that make POMS the great school it is! 

Please remember that any donation, no matter the size, helps our campaign and our students. And, it counts towards the CCC GRADE LEVEL Competition that is currently underway. As of right now, we have a tight, tight race with 6th grade with a slight lead at 16.7% of families donating. 7th grade is right behind at 16.4%. 8th grade is at 14.5%, but still has the chance to catch up.

We're throwing the biggest tailgate Pin Oak has ever seen and we need your help!

Our Homecoming Game vs Lanier will take place on Tuesday, October 29. The game starts at 7 PM but the tailgate will start at 5:00 PM in the Butler Stadium parking lot.

Each grade will have their own community tables so please sign up to bring drinks, snacks, food, sweets or anything you would like to share. We welcome all parents and students to join the fun. GO CHARGERS!

For every classic cone sold this October, Gelato Rossa will donate $1 back to Pin Oak and other participating schools. The school with the most sales will win a coupon for free gelato for every student and staff member at the school! Stop by for a cone from 12-10 PM, Tuesday to Sunday.

Join us on Monday, October 21 at 5:30 PM in the POMS Cafeteria for an interest meeting to learn about the swim team. 

• Register your student on RegisterMyAthlete before the meeting. It really makes things easier on our coaches.
• Students need to be able to swim already  - this is not lessons. 
• Tryouts are just to make sure that they will be able to complete a 50 meter freestyle in 1 minute. 
• We welcome club swimmers! 

We really want to beat another middle school who shall be nameless, so please come out and join the team.

Calling all 5th - 8th grade boys interested in POMS Lacrosse:

• Please complete the interest form and join our team on the SportsYou app. Team access code can be found on the interest form.
• We will introduce our new coaches, Hudson Bearden and Sean Tracey, on an upcoming Sunday afternoon. More details on the season coming soon on the SportsYou app.

Pin Oak's annual Color Run is returning on Friday, November 15, and your student will not want to be left out! 

Color Run is a fun run style event where students can leave class to hang out, listen to music, visit the Kona Ice truck, run or walk around the track, and throw color on each other in the Post Run Color Party. There are several options to participate:

• Color Throwers ($50) throw color (included) on Runners/Walkers during the run. A t-shirt is included with registration. (Only 15 spots available per grade.)
• Runners/Walkers ($25) will run or walk 1 mile as Color Throwers bombard you with color. A t-shirt is included with registration.
• Spectators ($5) cheer on Runners/Walkers from the bleachers and can participate in the Post Run Color Party. A t-shirt is NOT included.
• After the run, join your friends in the middle of the field for a Post Run Color Party. Purchase color bags (sold separately for all participants) to throw on your friends. Your student must be a Color Thrower, Runner/Walker or Spectator to participate in the Post Run Color Party.

Tickets:Click here to purchase your ticket. Online sales end on Sunday, November 10. We will be selling tickets during lunch the week of November 11 on Monday - Wednesday.

Sponsor a Participant: If you'd like to make a donation to cover the cost of additional Pin Oak students to attend Color Run, please do so on the order form.

Volunteers:We need parent volunteers to sell tickets at school and help support the event on November 15th. All volunteers must be VIPS-approved.

Yearbook recognition ads are the perfect way to commemorate achievements and celebrate milestones. In addition, revenue from recognition ads help our school create a better yearbook. Purchase your ad by January 31, 2025.

The school store is open for students during lunch. We have some new uniform items as well as novelty items for sale. The online school store is also open for your uniform needs. You will be notified when your order is ready for pick up and your student may pick up the items during lunch.

We still have some volunteer shifts available for the school store. Please sign up for the group (A or B)/day(s) that works best for you (shifts are every other week). All volunteers are required to be VIPS approved.

Pin Oak will be hosting an HISD School Choice High School Magnet recruitment fair in the MPR on November 4th from 10:30 - 11:30 AM for 8th graders only. Students will talk to representatives from various schools and learn more about available magnet programs throughout HISD.

Therefore, we are asking parents who attend POMS events and take photos to share their best images with us so we can include them in our school yearbook.
