SUBJECT: Charger Chatter

September 1, 2024

Principal's Post

Dear Charger Parents and Families,

Please remember that campus will be closed Monday (Labor Day) and Tuesday (HISD Staff Development Day). All classes will resume on Wednesday, September 4.

Open House is Thursday Night at 5:30 PM. Parents will report straight to your Charger’s 1st period. Parents are encouraged to take a picture of their student’s schedule on HISD Connect Parent Portal. You may also download the free Power School app on your mobile phone from the App Store or Google Play and take a screenshot of the schedule.

Parents will follow their student’s schedule and have a brief opportunity to meet each of their teachers and hear about course expectations. The purpose of Open House is to put a face to the name, receive contact information, and provide an overview of the class content and expectations for the school year. If you have individual concerns about your student, please email their teacher/ house administrator directly, as these rotations are fast, and we must stay on schedule.

School Store Volunteers Still Needed

Parent volunteers allow us to open the school store during our students' lunch period each day. It's also a great way to meet other parents and interact with students.

Signups are for the 2024-2025 school year. In order to open the store, we require at least 2 people onsite at all times. Please sign up for the group (A or B)/day(s) that works best for you (shifts are every other week).

Please feel free to reach out to Jean Lee or Thuy Promubol at schoolstore@pinoakpto.org with any questions or concerns.

All school volunteers are required to be VIPS approved.

POMS School Store Open

The school store will be open for students starting this week during lunch. The online school store is also open for your uniform needs. You will be notified of when/where to pick up your order once it has been fulfilled.

PE uniforms and Strength & Conditioning uniforms (8th Grade only) are available for purchase from the school store. Students are expected to dress out during PE class. If your student does not have a PE uniform, they will be allowed to substitute with dress-code appropriate athletic attire until the small sizes have been restocked in the school store.

Please email schoolstore@pinoakpto.org with any questions.

POMS Swim Team Interest Meeting

Join us on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 5:30 PM in the POMS Cafeteria for an interest meeting to learn about the swim team.

  • Register your student on Aktivate (Register My Athlete) before the meeting. It really makes things easier on our coaches.
  • Students need to be able to swim already  - this is not lessons.
  • Tryouts are just to make sure that they will be able to complete a 50 meter freestyle in 1 minute.
  • We welcome club swimmers!

We really want to beat another middle school who shall be nameless, so please come out and join the team.

Please email Ms. Hulbirt with any questions.

POMS Amazon Wishlist

Please consider helping us purchase items on the Pin Oak Amazon Wish List

Thank you so much for your generosity!

Register for VIPS (Volunteers in Public School)

All volunteers in HISD must register to be VIPS approved. Please register at least two weeks before your scheduled volunteer shift, as it can take three to five business days to complete the background check. Even if you were previously VIPS approved, you will need to register again as your approval expires at the end of each school year.

Calling All POMS Parent Photographers

With so many exciting events happening at Pin Oak throughout the school year, we are not always able to have a student photographer present to take photos. Therefore, we are asking parents who attend POMS events and take photos to share their best images with us so we can include them in our school yearbook.

Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities

Do you know a business who is looking for corporate sponsorship opportunities?

Pin Oak offers a variety of sponsorship levels and benefits, including school-wide newsletter and website recognition, banner display in a prominent location on campus, and much more! By partnering with businesses in our community, we raise funds for teacher, student, classroom and technology support, curriculum enrichment, staff appreciation, and facility enhancements.

Contact POMS PTO VP of Sponsorship Adriana Cune for more details.

Update Information for POMS Directory

Log in to update your directory info or sign up for a new account if you're a new user.
