August 8, 2021

Principal's Post

Charger Parents,

A new school year brings excitement - new friends meeting, old friends reuniting, and lots of new opportunities. Unfortunately, 2021-2022 also brings another year of mitigating the risks of COVID-19 and the new Delta variant. We are at a dig deep moment in the pandemic. The next couple of months have the potential to be very difficult. Digging deep has taken on a new meaning for me, as has the term grit. I want to acknowledge that not every family feels the same way about returning to school in person. Many families are excited and ready for full-time reconnection for their children. Others feel anxious or unsure about potential risks. I can promise you that your child's health is my number one priority, now and always. I am monitoring the news and speaking with the district. We should have an update by the end of this week. I may not have all of the answers at this time, but as soon as I receive answers or updates, I will immediately share those with you.

We have implemented safety stations for beginning of the year procedures, such as:

  • Masks and gloves will be available at all entrances.
  • Every teacher has received a case of masks for their classroom.
  • Every classroom is equipped with a professional grade humidifier.

Below are a few updates that parents, students, and staff need to know, but please click below for the full plan:

POMS will maintain the district approved healthy and safety protocols:

  • Urging students, staff, and essential visitors to stay home when sick
  • Strongly recommending masks to be worn in schools and buildings, but not requiring them per state mandate
  • Keeping plexiglass dividers in place
  • Cleaning and disinfecting all school buildings nightly
  • Limiting visitation to essential visitors with pre-scheduled appointments

Mask Mandate Update from Superintendent House

If required per State and HISD guidelines, I'll make any adjustments as needed. Please know that I am committed to implementing and maintaining all safety guidelines and protocols with fidelity.

Updates

Each school year we plan for ways to grow and improve. With this in mind, please be aware of the following important adjustments to our practices and procedures.

  • School Time: School will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will end at 4:00 p.m. each day. Students will be permitted to begin arriving at school at 7:45 a.m.
  • 10/10 Rule: The first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes of each period are the most important. To maximize learning, no one is allowed to leave the classroom during those times.
  • Backpacks: Students are permitted to use backpacks to bring items to and from school only. Students may keep their backpack in their locker during the school day. They may not carry backpacks from class to class.
  • Phones: Personal phones must be off and out of sight during the school day.

Connecting with you is important to us. As a result, we have many ways to share the latest and greatest of Pin Oak Middle School, including:
