Our Urban Agriculture Teacher & Cheer Coach, Ms. Gina Taylor, has a 28-year-old son, Kirby, who is currently being treated at MD Anderson.
Every November, MD Anderson has a Boot Walk to End Cancer, which is an annual fundraiser that provides support for patient programs, research, prevention, and education at MD Anderson. This is the third year she has formed Team #kirbystrong to end cancer. Because of COVID, this year’s walk is virtual. In honor of Kirby, POMS will be having an outdoor, socially-distanced Boot Walk on campus during independent student learning on Friday, November 6th for faculty, staff, and in-person students.
Ms. Taylor will be selling wristbands for $5 on Thursday during independent learning. On Friday, November 6th, those who purchased wristbands can wear boots/shoes of any kind (cowboy, knee high, hunting boots, rain boots, high tops) to school. At the end of the day during independent student learning, faculty, staff, and in-person students will walk around the track two times to Give Cancer the Boot. This will be a great way to end the week and show our support for a worthy cause!
