Pin Oak Parents, Students, and Community –

On Friday, our students had the opportunity to learn about the Sandy Hook Promise – See Something Say Something App. If you missed it, you can find the link here or on the front page of the Pin Oak website. As always, safety and student connection are top priorities. The Sandy Hook connection provides LIVE counselors to our students to reach out to 24/7 to seek help with safety issues. They will then reach out directly to the Pin Oak administration and counseling team for immediate investigation or assistance. We are thankful to get to share this valuable resource with our community.

Our Phase 1 application process for Magnet Applications ends November 6th. Please remember that 5th grade siblings must also register for the lottery. Contact Phil Neal, our magnet coordinator, if you have questions. PNEAL@houstonisd.org

Charger 8th grade students – reach out to your House Principal or Mr. Neal if you need help registering for high school. We are here to help and proud to brag about you!

PSAT Dates & Sign-Ups

This sign-up is for all 8th grade virtual students who have NOT already taken the PSAT (Oct. 27th). Please note the first 30 students for each date will be allowed to come to test so that CDC/Federal/State/HISD/College Board testing and health guidelines can be followed. Ms. Warren will notify/confirm each student, through their HISD email, as to their testing date. Please remember that the PSAT is optional in 8th grade and only counts toward admission into Bellaire's IB program. The dates of testing are as follows: 11/6, 11/11, 11/18, 12/1, 12/7, 12/9, 12/10, and 12/16. Ms. Warren will send an email confirmation to each student's HISD email the MONDAY before the testing date. (In the case of a Monday test date, it will go out Friday.)

Please remember that you must be signed in to your HISD email to access the document.

Give Cancer the Boot Walk at POMS

Our Urban Agriculture Teacher & Cheer Coach, Ms. Gina Taylor, has a 28-year-old son, Kirby, who is currently being treated at MD Anderson.

Every November, MD Anderson has a Boot Walk to End Cancer, which is an annual fundraiser that provides support for patient programs, research, prevention, and education at MD Anderson. This is the third year she has formed Team #kirbystrong to end cancer. Because of COVID, this year’s walk is virtual. In honor of Kirby, POMS will be having an outdoor, socially-distanced Boot Walk on campus during independent student learning on Friday, November 6th for faculty, staff, and in-person students.

Ms. Taylor will be selling wristbands for $5 on Thursday during independent learning. On Friday, November 6th, those who purchased wristbands can wear boots/shoes of any kind (cowboy, knee high, hunting boots, rain boots, high tops) to school. At the end of the day during independent student learning, faculty, staff, and in-person students will walk around the track two times to Give Cancer the Boot. This will be a great way to end the week and show our support for a worthy cause!
