Principal's Post
Dear Charger Parents and Families,
We have been back two weeks, closed out the first semester, and now it’s time to settle in for the second semester. Parents can view their student’s schedule by accessing HISD Connect. Please reach out to your student’s house administrator if you have any questions.
We will be on a modified bell schedule this week: - Monday – MLK Holiday (Closed Campus)
- Tuesday – Teacher Preparation Day (Closed Campus)
- Wednesday – BLUE Day (Periods: 1, 3, 5, & 7)
- Thursday – GRAY Day (Periods: 2, 4, 6, & 8)
- Friday – CHARGER Day (Periods: 1 - 8)
Yes, COVID has thrown us another curve ball, but please do not lose sight of the goal. We still have an entire semester to go, so we can’t take our foot off the gas pedal just yet. I still need students to make good choices and remain academically successful, so we must put in the effort it takes to do that. It will take heart, responsibility, and true “stick-with-it-ness.” Find your groove….and let’s gooooo!
Safety Expectations and Reminders Thank you to the majority of our campus that is consistently wearing IDs and lanyards daily! You are noticed and appreciated. If you do not have your ID or lanyard, you can purchase a new ID for $5 and a lanyard for $2 at the Student Success Table each morning from 7:45 a.m. - 8:15 a.m.
Why IDs? It’s all about campus safety and security. It makes students easily identifiable to ANY STAFF MEMBER (there are 115 adults in the building each day and not all of them will know your student or vice versa) in case of an emergency. Thank you for helping us keep OUR students safe. It’s my responsibility, so your cooperation and support is appreciated.
COVID Protocol Reminder Coming off a long winter’s break, we know there will be positive cases as we come together for the second half of the school year. You can help us keep school running smoothly for all by not sending students to school who are ill. If there is any question, please err on the side of caution. When we have to send staff home because they are ill, it has a dramatic impact on all students and staff. Thank you for being our partners as we continue to navigate the complicated world of COVID.
Mask Wearing As we continue to navigate this pandemic, it remains imperative that our school community continues to emphasize the importance of and practice proper mask wearing. Please talk with your student about the importance of this safety measure. Masks should be properly placed over the nose and mouth. Your assistance is much appreciated.
Water Bottles Water is available through water-filling stations. Please send a refillable water bottle to school each day with your child. Please label the water bottle with your child’s name. The water bottle should be filled at home each morning before coming to school.
The front office is open Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to assist you. You can also directly email us or call 713-295-6500 during the same hours. We are happy to help! |

| Donate to the POMS Auction
Dear Parents and Friends of Pin Oak Middle School,
The Pin Oak Middle School community is invited to a week-long celebration starting Sunday, February 20, 2022 as we kick off our annual auction!
The “Lights, Camera, Auction!” is 100% online this year, where you can bid over coffee or cocktails – you decide! The funds raised from the auction enrich and enhance the quality of each student’s education at POMS. We hope that you will support our school and donate to the auction!
In addition to the auction with round-the-clock bidding, the week-long celebration includes much more. A movie night, school spirit days, spirit nights at local restaurants, promotional social media posts, and raffles with exciting prizes are just some of the activities that will be part of this exciting event.
Pin Oak Middle School has established itself as one of the finest middle schools in Texas and has been nationally recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, a TEA Exemplary Middle School and a “No Place for Hate” by the Anti-Defamation League of Houston. Pin Oak serves a highly diverse population of children. The students come to Pin Oak through a boundary option or a foreign language magnet program. Students in the boundary option live in Bellaire, Braes Heights, Meyerland and West University Place. Students in the magnet program live all around the greater Houston area.
Our annual auction is a critical fundraising source for the POMS PTO. Your donations allow us to continue the strong tradition of supporting our teachers, staff and administrators with the resources needed to provide an excellent education and development of the whole child.
Listed below are just a few ways our PTO uses your donations to develop tomorrow’s leaders:
• Child Advocacy – school books, supplies and uniforms, and financial assistance to Students • Classroom Technology – laptops, interactive teaching systems, iPads • Fine Arts – band, choir, dance, orchestra, theater, visual arts • Library – books for school and classroom collections • UIL Athletics – equipment and uniforms
Now, more than ever, we need your help. Your generous, tax-deductible donation of items, services, gift certificates, vacation home rentals, unique opportunities or a monetary gift allows Pin Oak to continue the strong tradition of excellence for which it is known. It is also a wonderful opportunity for business advertisement , with the families of the more than 1,200 Pin Oak students able to show their gratitude with support of your business/organization. Click here to complete the online donation form today. We thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Shannon Westin (Chair), Melissa Bayne, Lindsay Colvin, Shannon Hancher, Elena Heaton, Melissa Law, Abeer Patel, Karyn Price, Nisha Rathi, Zephanie Reed, Anna Ripley, Jennifer Sanders, & Andrina Weatherly Pin Oak Middle School's 2022 Auction Committee |
